In recent years I have become aware of that fact who really owns all the forests in the world. We easily suppose that human can own some forest area, but in reality forests are not for sale. When you walk there you are in the “No Mans Land”.

Story of the "Real Forest Owners" by Lea Kaulanen:

“When you are hiking and wondering in the forest you might end up to the areas of the Earth Spirits. If you meet them, they are likely to serve you some food. No matter how hungry you are, you shouldn’t exert any of the offerings, or else you will stay underneath the earth forever, under the Earth Spirits spell. When you spent a night in the woods, you need to ask the Earth Spirits permission for it. You need to know, if it is all right for them that you stay in the place you have chosen so you don’t disturb their life and ways. Sometimes it happens that people set camp on top of Earth Spirits path or dwelling and then they get disturbed and tell you to leave. If you obey them, they do nothing, but if you don’t move they won’t let you sleep a minute!”

Viime vuosina olen alkanut pohtia sitä, kuka todella omistaa maailman metsät. Usein ajattelemme, että ihminen voi omistaa metsäalueen, mutta todellisuudessa metsiä ei voi omistaa. Kun kuljet metsässä, olet “ei kenenkään maalla”.

“Kun kuljet ja vaellat metsässä, saatat päätyä maahisten alueelle. Jos kohtaat heidät, he saattavat tarjota sinulle ruokaa. Olitpa kuinka nälkäinen tahansa, et saa syödä heidän antimiaan, sillä muuten jäät maan alle ikuisiksi ajoiksi, maanhenkien lumoihin. Jos vietät yön metsässä, sinun tulee pyytää maanhenkien lupa. Sinun on varmistettava, että heille sopii jäädä valitsemaasi paikkaan, ettet häiritse heidän elämäänsä ja tapojaan.

Joskus ihmiset pystyttävät leirinsä maahisten polulle tai asuinpaikan päälle. Tällöin henget häiriintyvät ja käskevät sinua lähtemään. Jos tottelet, he eivät tee mitään, mutta jos et siirry, he eivät anna sinun nukkua hetkeäkään!”
