HERITAGE: In Virtue Naturae – On the Spiritual Content of Nature
Art Center Ahjo, Joensuu, Finland

The exhibition reflects on our origins, present, and future, and what we pass on to coming generations. Inspired by my Finno-Ugric roots, it honors the deep connection between humans and nature and explores its spiritual significance for well-being. Viewers are invited to reflect on their own histories and reconnect with the spirit of nature. The works are made mainly from recycled and natural materials.

Näyttely pohtii alkuperäämme, nykyhetkeä ja tulevaisuutta sekä sitä, mitä jätämme seuraaville sukupolville. Suomalais-ugrilaisista juuristani ammentava kokonaisuus kunnioittaa ihmisen ja luonnon syvää yhteyttä ja tarkastelee sen henkistä merkitystä hyvinvoinnille. Katsojia kutsutaan pohtimaan omaa historiaansa ja löytämään yhteys luonnon henkeen.
Teokset on valmistettu pääosin kierrätetyistä ja luonnonmateriaaleista.

Filmed at the former Rautuvaara mine in Kolari and in Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park, Lapland, Finland.
Mining waste pollutes the environment for thousands of years. Finland has 44 mines, and new projects are expanding rapidly, with over 10% of the land already reserved for mining—up to 20% in some regions. Many sites pose serious risks, as massive waste volumes could contaminate waterways for millennia.

Ohjaus ja kuvaus: Satu Kalliokuusi (2020–2021)
Kuvattu Rautuvaaran suljetulla kaivosalueella Kolarissa sekä Pallas–Yllästunturin kansallispuistossa, Lapissa.
Kaivosjätteet saastuttavat ympäristöä tuhansien vuosien ajan. Suomessa on 44 kaivosta, ja uusia hankkeita syntyy nopeasti: yli 10 % maa-alasta on jo varattu kaivostoimintaan, paikoin jopa 20 %. Monet kaivokset aiheuttavat merkittäviä riskejä, sillä valtavat jätemäärät voivat saastuttaa vesistöjä vuosituhansiksi.
